Hashim slams Ahok for leaving Gerindra

G

erindra Party deputy chief patron HashimDjojohadikusumo has lambasted Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ TjahajaPurnama for his abrupt resignation from Gerindra, the party that nominated himas deputy governor during the Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2012.

Hasyim said he was very disappointed with Ahok for sending a resignation letter without any prior discussions with the party'€™s top officials, including the chief patron and losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto.

'€œWhen I asked him [Ahok] if he had met Prabowo [before tendering his resignation] and his answer was no, I scolded him. He was speechless,'€ he told reporters at a conference in Jakarta on Monday.

Hashim, who is also Prabowo'€™s brother, scolded Ahok for not sharing his concerns with the former general.

He said he was shocked to learn the former East Belitung regent had left the party. '€This is a political party, not an association, group, or an arisan [social gathering]. Disagreement is normal in any political party, but a discussion before a member decides to leave the party is essential; that is the mechanism,'€ he said.

Last week, Ahok resigned his Gerindra membership in protest at the plan by the Red-and-White Coalition, led by Prabowo, to abolish direct elections for local heads.
