party official from theProsperous Justice Party (PKS) has said the party will honor the Supreme Court verdict, handed down to former PKS chairman Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq on Monday, which extended Luthfi's prison sentence from 16 to 18 years.
The court also revoked Luthfi's political right to be appointed a public official in the future.
'The Supreme Court's verdict is part of the law enforcement system. Therefore, we have no option but to honor it,' PKS spokesman Mardani Ali said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
Mardani said Luthfi could request a case review by the Supreme Court, if he wished.
'Luthfi still has that chance. We wish him all the best,' he said.
The panel of Supreme Court justices, consisting of presiding judge Artidjo Alkostar, M. Askin and MS Lumme, issued the heavier verdict after considering an appeal by Luthfi, who was previously convicted of bribery in a meat-import graft case.
In his consideration, justice Artidjo said Luthfi deserved the longer prison term as he had betrayed the public's trust by accepting bribe money while serving as a lawmaker.(dic)
