he Bogor administration will issue a regulation banning cars with 'B' (Jakarta) license-plate numbers from entering Bogor, West Java at weekends.
Bogor Deputy Mayor Usmar Hariman said that the administration would make such a regulation in a bid to decrease the volume of traffic congestion that usually happened in Bogor at weekends.
He said Bogor Mayor Bima Arya had appointed a special team to formulate the regulation and inform the public about it in 2015.
'This regulation is aimed at encouraging people to use public transportation when they want to visit Bogor,' Usmar said recently as quoted by kontan.co.id.
He said, however, the administration would drop the plan if facilities and mass public transportation infrastructure were not sufficient to accommodate people who wanted to travel to Bogor.
Separately, Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that he would have no objection to Bima banning cars from Jakarta entering Bogor at weekends.
'It is not a problem. Traffic jams in Jakarta are also caused by vehicles from Bogor,' Ahok said as quoted by kompas.com.
However, many Jakarta residents have raised eyebrows at the regulation, which is planned to go into effect next year.
Yanuar, for instance, said that he would be very disappointed if his car was not allowed to enter Bogor at weekends because the city had many tourist attractions
'The regulation should not be like this. If they implement such a policy, its tourism will die,' he said. (alz/nfo)(++++)
