heNational Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has announced it intends tofollow up reports filed by the Jakarta International School (JIS) management regardingviolence allegedly committed by police investigators against two of its teachersduring questioning.
'A team will be deployed to seek clarification regarding this report,' Komnas HAM commissioner Natalius Pigai said on Wednesday as quoted by Antaranews.com.
The teachers are currently detained on charges of committing sexual abuse against their pupils. The two teachers are an Indonesian named Ferdinand Tjiong and a Canadian named Neil Bentleman.
Natalius added that the commission would also follow up another report that stated no student had in fact been sexually assaulted.
'We no longer have any reason to continue the investigation if the medical report on the students states that they haven't been sexually attacked,' he said.
A series of medical check-ups has been conducted by the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital that have found no strong indications that an alleged victim had been sexually abused.(alz/dic)
