group of 12th grade students of SMA 70 public high school in Bulungan, South Jakarta, have been skipping school since Monday in protest at the school's decision to expel 13 students from the same grade.
The school administration expelled the 13 students for having allegedly bullied a 10th grade student.
'They do not want to go school since they think that the school is not providing a conducive atmosphere for studying,' Oki, a representative of the school committee, said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
She added that what the 12th graders were doing was a form of 'solidarity action' with their 13 expelled classmates.
She was hoping the administration would take immediate action to resolve the problem in order to persuade the students to go back to school because they had to prepare for the national examination.
However, the school has as yet taken no action in response to the protest. (alz/nfo)(++++)
