he Jakarta Traffic Police ticketed 61public-transportation vehicles for various traffic violations after raiding theKampung Melayu terminal in East Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.
'We raided the terminal because the area is notorious for heavy traffic jams,' Jakarta Traffic Police enforcement head Adj. Sr. Comr. Hindarsono said on Friday.
The Traffic Police deployed 35 officers to monitor public transportation vehicles stopping at the entrance of the terminal and also those stopping on the Kampung Melayu overpass. They were also looking for ojek (motorcycle taxis) that were waiting inside the terminal, Hindarsono said.
He added that the police issued tickets to 44 public minivans, five bajaj (motorized pedicabs), three Kopaja buses and nine ojek in their efforts to clear the streets. The police also confiscated several vehicle permits.
