he German government has expressed its interest ininvesting in North Sumatra, especially in the energy and transportationsectors.
In a meeting with North Sumatra Governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho at his official residence in Medan on Thursday, German ambassador to Indonesia, Geong Witschel, said North Sumatra was one of the best places in Indonesia to invest.
He added Germany was ready to work closer with North Sumatra, especially in the power generation and transportation sectors by involving banks in Germany to finance the projects in the province.
'We could establish cooperation in the form of power plants and urban mass transportation financed by German banks,' said Witschel, adding he was accompanying the CEO of the second largest bank in Germany on his second visit to Medan.
Gatot welcomed Germany's interest in investing in the province. He said North Sumatra was home to several economic growth centers known as Mebidangro, namely Medan, Binjai, Deliserdang and Karo.
