T

he chairman of Muhammadiyah, Indonesia'€™s second largest Muslim organization, Din Syamsuddin, underlined the need for the international community to continuously nurture dialogue among religions to help overcome cumulative global problems.

'€œWe need to develop some form of cultural cooperation among religious followers,'€ Din said when presenting his theological and sociological perspective at the Third Catholic-Muslim Forum in the Vatican recently.

The forum, co-organized by the Vatican and Amman-based Common Word Movement (Kalimatun Sawa'€™), was held from Nov. 11-13 and themed '€œWorking Together to Serve Others'€.

The forum was also attended by other Muslim leaders: Hossein Nasr (Iran), Abdullah Scheleifer (Egypt), Mustafa Ceric (Grand Mufti of Bosnia), Shaikh Naim Ternava (Grand Mufti of Kosovo) and Ali Aref Nayed (Libya).

Meanwhile, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, Miguel Ayuso Guixot, Mgr. Khaled Akasheh attended from the Vatican, while Vincenzo Buonomo (Italy) and Mgr. Hario Antoniazzi, Archbishop of Tunis, represented Catholic leaders.

At the end of the forum, all participants had the opportunity to meet Pope Francis at his office in the Vatican.
