ach of the two perpetrators behind the murder in March of 19-year-old Ade Sara Angelina Suroto has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for their roles in masterminding and carrying out the killing.

Nineteen-year-old Ahmad Imam Al Haftid, who was Ade Sara'€™s former lover, and Assyifa Ramadhani received their verdicts at the Central Jakarta District Court from presiding Justice Absoro on Tuesday.

'€œI hereby sentence the defendant Ahmad Imam Al Haftid to 20 years in prison for his proven role in masterminding and carrying out the planned murder,'€ Absoro said on Tuesday as he delivered the verdict, according to kompas.com.

Following the reading of the verdict, defendant Assyifa Ramadhani reportedly fainted after being taken out of the court room.

Prosecutors previously demanded that both defendants receive life sentences for their actions with a main charge of premeditated murder. The prosecutors explained that both teenagers had the time to reconsider their actions, but did not.

The prosecutors also proposed the life sentences on account of both Assyifa and Haftid causing emotional distress to the parents of Ade Sara, as well as cutting off the Suroto family bloodline. Ade Sara was the only child of her parents, Elizabeth and Suroto.

Head prosecutor Toton Rasyid had specifically mentioned that there was no high ground that could help to lighten the defendants'€™ sentences, as both of their defense statements were also considered unclear by prosecutors.

The two teenagers reportedly tortured Sara for hours in Hafitd'€™s car on March 3 '€” gagging her, administering electric shocks and beating her to death. They dumped her body on the side of the Bintara toll road in Bekasi, West Java, where it was found two days later. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
