even Singaporean forensic experts have joined the Indonesian Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team to assist in efforts to identify AirAsia QZ8501 victims at Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Surabaya, East Java.
'They are helping the identification processes led by the Indonesian DVI team,' Brig.Gen.Arthur Tampi of the National Police's DVI team said as quoted by Antara news agency on Sunday.
He said the seven-member team from Singapore comprised five fingerprint experts, one dental expert and one forensic pathology expert.
Arthur said that with the help of the Singaporean personnel, it was hoped that the ongoing identification process for 24 victims would run well and yield immediate results.
'With more personnel, we hope the identification process can be completed soon so that the bodies can be immediately returned to their families,' he said.
Ten bodies are currently undergoing identification at Bhayangkara Police Hospital, according to Arthur.
'Today, we are carrying out the identification processes of bodies we received on Saturday, including two bodies whose identification results have yet to be confirmed,' said Arthur.
He said all bodies the team received had decomposed. Even if they could no longer be identified, he added, the DVI team would still carry out identification processes based on available primary and secondary data. (ebf)(+++)
