JAKARTA: Singer Memes dedicated her 10th studio album to the legendary works of composer Ismail Marzuki.

Lief Java includes nine new arrangements of Ismail Marzuki'€™s songs, while one song, '€œSepanjang Jalan Kenangan'€ (Down Memory Lane) was written by Haryanto.

The album, whose title means '€œlovely Java'€ in Dutch, was meant to keep the oldies alive for the younger generation, Memes said.

'€œI'€™ve always wanted to sing the '€˜evergreens'€™, but for a long time I haven'€™t found the right format to make them fit in the contemporary music scene,'€ she said at the album-launch event on Wednesday at Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Central Jakarta

On the album, Ismail Marzuki'€™s hit songs in the 1930s have been reimagined with jazzy arrangements and orchestral instrumentation by Memes'€™ husband, composer and orchestra conductor Addie MS, in collaboration with other musicians as well as Chez City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

'€œThe album not only will appeal to Memes'€™ fans, but to all music lovers,'€ said Addie.
