he Attorney General's Office (AGO) has ordered the arrest of a former state-owned telecommunications company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) employee for allegedly embezzling some Rp 2.1 billion (US$162,438) from the regional budget in Raja Ampat, West Papua, between 2003 and 2009.
The director of investigation at the AGO, Suyadi, said that the AGO decided to arrest him because investigators feared he would try to run away before the trial.
'This is why it is necessary to detain the suspect,' Suyadi said.
Suyadi added that the 58-year-old Endad, who currently resides in Bandung, West Java, would be detained from Feb. 23 to March 14.
Endad, along with five others, including Raja Ampat Regent Markus Wanma, stands accused of violating Article 2 and 3 of the 1999 Corruption Law for corruption in the distribution of generators from the regional budget.
