ased on research conducted in the past one-and-a half years in a number of commercial poultry centers, Yogyakarta is now free of the H5N1 virus, also known as the avian influenza, or bird flu virus, a researcher from Yogyakarta'€™s Gadjah Mada University said on Thursday.

'€œIn the research we have been carrying out for 18 months, we found no indication of the bird flu virus,'€ said team leader Michael Haryadi Wibowo when disclosing the outcome of the research at UGM'€™s University Club.

'€œBased on the results, no indication of the avian influenza virus has been found during the 18 months of research,'€ said Haryadi

The research was conducted by UGM'€™s Veterinary School research team and some researchers from Australia at eight commercial poultry centers in the Sleman, Gunungkidul, Kulonprogo and Bantul regencies.
