A death row inmate from the Philippines, Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, has arrived at Besi Prison on Nusakambangan Island, joining nine other convicts set for imminent execution.

Veloso, who was sentenced to death for a drug case in 2010, was moved from her cell in Wirogunan Prison, Yogyakarta. She was transported in a Barracuda car escorted by a number of Mobile Brigade personnel. After she applied for her case to be reopened, the Supreme Court affirmed the death sentence, while her request for clemency has also been turned down by the President.

Veloso was arrested for attempting to smuggle 2.6 kilograms of heroin worth Rp 5.5 billion while flying from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2010.

Agus Salim, one of Veloso'€™s legal team, said they had not been informed of their client'€™s move to Nusakambangan. He said they should have been informed to allow them to accompany her on the trip.

He said the lack of information about his client'€™s move had caused her relatives and envoys from the Philippines to fruitlessly travel to Wirogunan Prison in Yogyakarta on Friday morning in an attempt to visit her.

He said the legal team was preparing a second request for his client'€™s case to be reopened.

The nine others who are next to be executed are two Australians, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, three Nigerians, Raheem Agbaje Salami, Okwudili Oyatanze and Silvester Obiekwe Nwaolise alias Mustofa, Indonesian Zainal Abidin, Frenchman Serge Areski Atlaoui, Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte and Ghanaian Martin Anderson alias Belo.(+++)
