myGadget: Anji: Getting it done creatively

Social media has become an important part of the career of singer Erdian Aji Prihartanto, popularly known as Anji.

During a recent visit to The Jakarta Post, Anji said that he loved to use social media to build personal branding and engagement with his fans, but to also find new activities and communities to collaborate with.

Recently, Anji decided to reach out to more than 635,000 accounts that follow him on Twitter and 36,000 accounts on Instagram to produce a video clip for his new single '€œHingga Hari Tua'€ (Until We Grow Old).

He asked them to send him photos with their loved ones so that he could compile them for the clip.

'€œI believe artists and musicians should not only use their social media accounts to promote their stuff only. Social media is an excellent way to reach out, give ideas and share stories along with recommendations,'€ Anji said.

'€œI rarely promote my songs or albums on my social media accounts. I might bore my fans if I only promote my stuff to them,'€ he added.

To easily access social media on the go, Anji relies on two gadgets and a number of apps.

Gadgets

I use an iPhone 6 and an Android One smartphone from Evercross. I am a huge Apple fan because it has a lot of user-friendly applications. The iPhone 6 also has a huge 128 gigabytes of storage. These days, photos and videos come in large sizes and we need big storage to back them up. I gave the Android phone a shot because I am curious about the applications offered by the Google Play Store. Not all applications are available in the Apple Store and I want to know what Android has to offer.

Apps

For social media, I mainly use Twitter and Instagram. I find that the engagement on Instagram is far more effective. The platforms have different characteristic.

Twitter is like a fast-updating miniblog and is only text-based. Therefore, its efficiency and effectiveness in building engagement is inferior compared with Instagram, which is more like an album and has a slower speed of update in its timeline.

For my iPhone 6, I also like to use video editing applications, such as iMovie, Splice and Videon. I love to edit and even create videos on the go and these mobile applications allow me to do so, as they are very user friendly. They have cool features, such as color adjustment and speed effects that allow me to create great videos easily.
