ISCI Wanderers secured their place in the Division One final by defeating table leaders Jakarta Barbarians in a replay at Cibubur on Saturday. Although defeated, the Barbarians will get another shot at a final spot, when they take on WPP-India XI next weekend in what can be billed as a Division One semi-final.
Batting first, WISCI built on a good start of 67/2 (12 overs) and 187/2 (24 overs) to post 289/6 in 35 overs. Viraj Bhammar returned to form with a classy 104 while Bob Plath blazed his way to 83.
Scott Masson was once again the pick of the Barbarians' bowlers with 2/36 while Eki Antaria chipped in with 2/58. In reply, the Barbarians kept up the chase by reaching 74/3 (12 overs) and 153/4 (24 overs) but faded in the final session to end up on 201/5 in 35 overs, handing victory to WISCI by 88 runs. Jon Baker stroked a fine 93 and Mark Sims remained unbeaten on 29 for the losers, with Rajeev Rajeswaran taking 3/54 for the victors.
On Sunday at Cibubur, Emerio crashed to some excellent bowling by WPP India XI's Dhiraj Nagpal (4/21) as they were bowled out for a paltry 81 in 29.2 overs. Rajat Jain (36) and Vijay Krishnan (22) were the only Emerio batsmen to show any resistance, while Bhuvan (2/14) and Kishore Gunwani (2/19) provided Nagpal with excellent support with the ball.
Faced with a small target of 82, WPP lost a few wickets but sealed a five-wicket victory in the 19th over, reaching 82/5 with skipper Pallav Malhottra contributing 35. Anjaneyulu Katta picked up two wickets for Emerio.
At the GMIS ground, Challengers recovered from a poor start of 65/5 to post a respectable 186 all out in 30.3 overs against TKCC. Satinder Minhas (40) and Vimal (30) were the main-stays of Challengers' batting but the others found it hard to counter the accurate bowling of Swaroop Chavan, who took five scalps.
Exchanges were even in the early stage of the second innings when TKCC were 83/4 (12 overs) before they pulled away to record victory by four wickets, reaching 187 for six. Anil Gawda led the way with a fine 73 not out and Neeraj Chaddha made 38 for TKCC, with Ranjan Shankar taking two wickets.
