AKARTA: House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto says the House leadership will allow the Legislation Body (Baleg) and the government to decide what to do with the plan to amend the 2002 Law on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

'€œWe will leave it all up to Baleg and the government. Let'€™s just wait and see,'€ Setya told reporters at the House compound on Friday.

Setya said he was optimistic that the House and the government would come up with the best solution to make the KPK a better and stronger agency through the planned revision.

The amendment of the KPK Law will only serve to reinforce the antigraft body'€™s legal supremacy, he said. '€œSo I hope everyone will have the patience to wait and that all goes well,'€ Setya said.

Setya said House leaders would closely scrutinize the contents of the draft revision to ensure that the KPK could continue to contribute to anti-corruption initiatives.

Previously, the government urged the House to include the KPK Law in this year'€™s National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).

'€œThis piece of legislation has been included on the long list of the 2015'€“2019 Prolegnas at the House'€™s initiative, and it must be pushed through as a priority for 2015,'€ Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H. Laoly said during a recent meeting with Baleg on Tuesday.
