onstruction commenced on Thursday for a new 8.15-kilometer toll road connecting Soreang with Pasir Koja in Bandung regency in West Java, aka the Soroja toll road, and is set to reach completion in August next year.
"The toll road will help boost the economy amid the country's current economic slowdown as well as support the National Sports Festival XVI in West Java in September 2016," said Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono prior to the project's groundbreaking ceremony as quoted by tempo.co.
The Soroja toll road, which will cost Rp 1.51 trillion (US$105 million), will link the city of Bandung with other parts of Bandung regency and the Padalarang-Cileunyi toll road.
"[The new toll road] will maximize Bandung regency's tourism potential and promote it as a new icon of tourism in West Java as well as attract investors," said Basuki.
According to Bagus Medi, president director of PT Citra Marga Lintas Jabar (CMLJ), which is overseeing the project, only 10 percent of the 112.5 hectares of land needed for the road is yet to be acquired.
"With the support of our partners, we are optimistic [that the project will finish on time]," said Bagus.
PT CMLJ has secured the concession rights to the road for 45 years. Its shareholders include PT Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada Tbk, PT Wijaya Karya Tbk and PT Jasa Sarana, a West Java provincial enterprise. (kes)(++++)
