Uber has yet to earn any profit on transactions made by Indonesian customers, according to Karun Arya, a spokesperson for the ride-booking company.

All income taken from users currently went to the drivers or owners of rental cars partnering with Uber, Karun said.

'€œWe haven'€™t yet made a profit. We don'€™t take a cut '€“ all the money goes to drivers. In the future, though, there will be an allocation for us, for example 80 percent for drivers and 20 percent for us,'€ Karun said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

Uber currently runs services in Greater Jakarta, Bandung and Bali.

The decision not to run a profit, Karun said, had been in light of Indonesia'€™s lack of clear regulations relating to mobile-application businesses.

At the same time, he added, Indonesian customers, especially in Jakarta, had shown significant interest in non-cash transactions, an important feature for Uber, which, he said, was keen to attract people who loved the thrill of new experiences.

'€œThe people of Indonesia are unique; there are still many who carry out transactions in cash and carry money. With Uber, we apply a non-cash transaction policy using credit cards so customers don'€™t have to bring money everywhere and don'€™t need to worry being asked for more money from our drivers,'€ said Karun.

He added that the company had submitted a permit to the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) to establish a foreign investment company.

'€œHopefully we can establish the PMA company by the end of this year or early 2016,'€ said Karun. (kes)
