Originally established in New Orleans in 1965, Ruth's Chris Steak House is now offering up its signature US steaks in Jakarta.
Founded by Ruth Fertel, who developed the trademarked cooking method of searing steaks at 982.2 degrees Celsius, the restaurant is renowned for serving tender and juicy meat on a 260-degree Celsius ceramic heated plate replete with butter topping to create a sizzling sound.
From the New York strip to the thick Porterhouse for two, diners will have plenty to choose from. Options of mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and fresh asparagus with hollandaise sauce are also available to share.
In addition to the steaks, patrons can look forward to enjoying other New Orleans-flavored dishes such as Ruth's Chop Salad (Julienne iceberg lettuce, baby spinach and radicchio, tossed with red onions, mushrooms, green olives, beef bacon, eggs, croutons and blue cheese with a lemon basil dressing), barbecued shrimp (sautéed New Orleans-style shrimps drenched in a savory sauce made of butter, garlic, reduced white wine and spices) and a double lump of crab cakes served with sizzling lemon butter. To close the meal, patrons might consider the creamy cheese cake.
Given the quality of the steak, expect to splurge at least Rp 700,000 (US$52) for a portion of steak, its complement dishes and a glass of wine.
As a fine-dining steakhouse, the establishment provides a clean yet elegant interior with five private dining areas that can each accommodate up to 20 guests. An open bar is available in the middle of the restaurant for guests to mingle and it also has a semi-outdoor area for couples seeking a romantic ambiance.
Officially opened for business on Saturday, the restaurant's presence at the Somerset Apartment Complex in South Jakarta marks its tenth establishment in Asia after appearing in Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. The steakhouse chain has over 143 establishments globally. (kes)(+)
