s the House of Representatives' next recess period nears, the House and the government have agreed to discuss the draft tax amnesty bill in the following sitting session, which will begin in May.

During a working meeting on Thursday evening at House Commission XI overseeing finance and banking, the House and the government agreed to establish a working committee comprising representatives from all parties to deliberate the draft bill.

The committee is set to start discussing the draft bill, which has 27 articles, on May 17 after the opening of the plenary meeting in the upcoming sitting session.

Ten political party factions at the House have submitted problem inventory lists (DIM), which were compiled by Commission XI's secretariat.

Commission XI chairman Ahmadi Noor Supit was optimistic that the House could complete the bill in May, although it was later than its initial target. Previously, House Speaker Ade Komarudin said he hoped the bill could be passed into law during the current sitting session.

Ade even suggested that Commission XI could discuss the bill during the recess period but the commission rejected the idea.

"From the latest developments, there are not too many crucial articles that need to be discussed. Most of them are no longer [critical] issues," Supit said after the meeting, which was also attended by Finance Minister Bambang S. Brodjonegoro and representatives of the Law and Human Rights Ministry.

In the meeting, Gerindra Party faction politician Soepriyatno was elected as the chairperson of the working committee. Gerindra is the only party that has rejected the bill in the past.

Soepriyatno will lead the committee along with other Commission XI executives, namely Supit (from the Golkar Party), Muhammad Prakosa (Democratic Party), Soepriyatno (Gerindra Party) and Jon Erizal (the National Mandate Party). (ebf)
