f The Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office does not accept the case dossier on murder suspect Jessica Kumala Wongso by May 28, she must be released from her detention and she will be free to go abroad because her travel ban will expire on the same day as her release.

“A travel ban is to prevent a suspect from traveling [overseas] before the investigation is complete. If she is not being detained, the travel ban is also invalid,” said spokesman for the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s immigration directorate general, Heru Santoso, on Wednesday as reported by tribunnews.com.

The case dossier on Jessica has gone back and forth between the Jakarta City Police and Jakarta Prosecutors’ Office four times because the police have failed to provide strong enough evidence. Jessica’s 120-day detention period will expire on May 28.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Waluyo Yahya said on Wednesday that the prosecutors had not come to a conclusion on Jessica’s dossier.

He, however, added that the expiry of the detention period would not affect the process of the prosecutors’ examination of the case dossier.

“We have nothing to do with the detention. We work based on the evidence [from the police],” said Waluyo, adding that the police had added items of evidence to the case dossier, but they needed to be improved.

“Just wait and see, the team is working on it,” Waluyo added.

Jessica has been named the only suspect in the murder of her friend Wayan Mirna Salihin, who died after drinking cyanide-laced coffee on Jan. 6 while at a restaurant in Central Jakarta with Jessica and another friend. (bbn)
