Actor and singer Morgan Oey doesn’t consider himself over-reliant on technology
Actor and singer Morgan Oey doesn’t consider himself over-reliant on technology. He says he occasionally uses his smartphone and laptop when he needs to, but can cope without them.
The last time Morgan really depended on his gadgets was when he had to shoot his upcoming movie Jilbab Traveler Love Sparks in Korea, in which he plays the role of Hyun Geun, a Korean native.
For this role, the production team hired a Korean native to teach Morgan Korean and the gadgets helped him become a true Korean able to speak the language.
“The Korean words for my dialogue were already in the script, but still, there were some words that I didn’t know how to pronounce. So for these words, I told the Korean teacher to record them on my phone so I could learn to pronounce them correctly.”
He added that he also used his laptop and DVD player to watch Korean dramas, in order to enhance his Korean-speaking skills and to learn about Korean culture and gestures.
“The last drama I watched was Yong Pal, a movie about a doctor in debt,” he said.
When it comes to technology, Morgan admitted he relied more on the apps and not the gadgets as the apps allowed him to communicate and to connect with his fans.
He named a few of his favorite apps:
--------------
Twitter
Aside from communicating with fans, I also use this app to work, because my profession requires me
occasionally
to tweet. Or maybe sometimes I will use it to share what I’m up to. But
I think it’s mainly to connect virtually with my fans, and to give them
updates, like, “Hey, I will feature in this upcoming movie!” —
something like that. So they know about the movies I’ll be in.
--------------
Instagram
I upload photos pretty often; sometimes to advertise products, and sometimes to tell my fans what I’m doing or what I’m up to.
-------------
Whatsapp
Well, this one is, of course, to chat and to contact people, for communication purposes.
