he Directorate General of Taxation said Thursday that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) had begun to dominate the tax amnesty in October, shown by the increasing number of people who submitted asset statement letters (SPHs) to tax offices.
Hestu Yoga Saksama, the tax office’s spokesman, said that in the second round until Oct. 26, 31,513 individuals had handed over SPHs with total redemption payments reaching around Rp 716 billion (US$ 54.9 million).
“More SMEs are joining the tax amnesty. From Rp 716 billion in redemption payments according to SPHs, personal SME taxpayers contributed the most [Rp 431 billion],” he said during a press conference in Jakarta.
Director general of taxation Ken Dwijugeasteadi, said the tax office continued to provide simpler services for SMEs in a bid to increase their participation.
“SPHs for SMEs can be handwritten and submitted collectively through associations. We are working together with the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to help them,” he said.
“We will come to them, we will place tax officials at the center of SMEs activities, such as at the Tanah Abang market, shopping malls and other areas,” he added. (win/dmr)
