akarta gubernatorial election candidate pair Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat had reportedly garnered up to Rp50 billion (US$3.7 million) in donations from their supporters as of Monday.
Djarot said the donations were from several fundraising activities, including sponsored dinners and luncheons.
"People have given donations for the Basuki-Djarot pair ranging from Rp 10,000, to Rp20,000, Rp50,000, Rp100.000 and up to Rp75 million," Djarot was quoted as saying by kompas.com during a ceremony attended by around 2,000 Ahok-Djarot supporters at the Pospera post in South Jakarta on Sunday.
According to Djarot, 78 percent of the donation amounts were below Rp500,000, reflecting that most of the donors were low- to middle-income residents. (dmr)
