T

hree subdistricts in South Jakarta and West Jakarta were inundated by floods late on Saturday evening following heavy downpour since Saturday afternoon, the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency said on Sunday.

In South Jakarta, Petogogan subdistrict was swamped by floodwaters 30 centimeters deep at 6 p.m., while 60 centimeters of water flooded Petukangan Selatan subdistrict at 9 p.m.

Floodwaters also inundated the Kedoya Selatan subdistrict in West Jakarta by between 40 centimeters and 60 centimeters, caused by the overflowing Pesanggrahan River.

The agency said in a statement that it had operated some pumps to reduce the deluge, while calling on residents to monitor the flooding.

The agency said it would be ready to respond to reports via its hotline: 112.

As of Sunday morning, the water levels at most Jakarta sluice gates returned to normal, leaving only the Pasar Ikan sluice gate in North Jakarta on high alert.
