o:p>Commuter line rail operator PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) will install more ticket vending machines in Jakarta stations by the end of the month.

The company president director Muhammad Nurul Fadhila said Tuesday that after seeing the positive response from daily passengers toward vending machines, they agreed it was time for the manual ticket counters to be removed from the stations.

“We have to implement a more effective ticketing system in Jakarta,” he told reporters.

In this month 186 new automatic ticket machines are expected to be installed at 56 train stations, a major increase from the current 50 machines.

“In the end vending machines will replace every ticket counter in the station, except one dedicated to information and multi-trip tickets,” he told reporters.

He also reaffirmed the company’s target to transport 1.2 million passengers per day by 2019. On average, 950,000 people board commuter trains daily and recently, on April 8, the company broke the 1 million passenger mark.
