Actress Marshanda has called for better education and treatment of bipolar disorder
ctress Marshanda has called for better education and treatment of bipolar disorder.
Marshanda, who once suffered from the mental-health problem, said that she had managed to survive until now because she had received proper treatment.
“My bipolar symptoms slowly went away after I received proper treatment,” she said as quoted by kapanlagi.com.
Marshanda, however, acknowledged that not everyone in the country was as privileged as her in receiving access to proper treatment. This is dangerous as bipolar disorder sufferers could become suicidal in the long run.
“If you suffer from the syndrome, there are times when you feel like your life is over,” she said.
“Most education materials about the syndrome are wrong and insufficient. They mostly come in the form of posters and even a lot of doctors wrongfully diagnose this syndrome as a form of insomnia, which is completely different,” she added.
