Offering an abundance of public spaces, Bandung’s teenagers are the happiest group of people in the city, a survey has revealed.
The 2017 Bandung City Happiness Index ranks teenagers at the top, with the group’s happiness index standing at 75.01 on a scale of 1 to 100.
Yuyun Hidayat, a quality control laboratory researcher at Padjadjaran University’s School of Statistics, said teenagers were the happiest because most public spaces in Bandung were intended for them.
“They comprise art and performance buildings, and in particular stadiums and sport fields,” said Yuyun, who conducted the survey with the Bandung City Improvement, Research and Development Planning Agency, in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday.
This year’s Bandung City Happiness Index shows an overall improvement from the result of a similar survey a year earlier. The survey shows the overall happiness index in Bandung city stands at 73.42, a slightly improvement from 73.27 a year earlier.
Huyogo Simbolon, 32, an Antapani resident, claimed he was very happy to live in Bandung. According to the index, residents living in Antapani district are the happiest compared to people who live in 30 other districts in the city.
Working as a driver for a ridehailing app company, Huyogo said he felt at ease living in Antapani, where an overpass was recently constructed to tackle traffic congestion.
