outh Tangerang in Banten has followed the success of Pare village in Kediri, East Java, by creating a village that provides English lessons to people living in the surrounding areas.
Gusri Effendi, the founder of the Kampung Konservasi Rimbun (Rimbun Conservation Village) project, said the village, the development of which began in August last year, would hold activities about plant conservation in addition to providing English lessons.
“We expect the development to finish this December,” Gusri said on Sunday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
Even though the development has yet to be completed, Gusri said plant conservation activities and English lessons for children living near the village had started.
“Fifty-one children from Buaran subdistrict in Serpong have taken the lessons. We currently have five instructors and we will add more teachers when the development is completed,” Gusti said.
“Our plan is that every house in the village will become a homestay, just as in Pare. We even believe it can be greater than Pare.”
South Tangerang Mayor Airin Rachmi Diany supported the development of the village, saying it was in line with her goal to foster innovation and creativity.
