Police arrest teen for uploading video of persecuted Tangerang couple

he cyber team from Tangerang Police in Banten have arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly uploading a video of a persecuted couple in Cikupa, Tangerang.
The couple were accused of having premarital sex at the woman's home on Nov.11. Residents stripped the couple naked and paraded them. The couple were also physically assaulted, as seen in a video that went viral on social media.
"After our investigation, we arrested the man suspected of uploading the video at his rented house in Jatiuwung on Monday," Tangerang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Sabilul Alif said in a statement on Thursday.
Sabilul said the man, identified as GS, uploaded the video to his Facebook account. He added that the viral video had caused the couple psychological stress.
"One of the reasons why the victims have become depressed is that there is someone who shared the video of them, and of course this is very regrettable," he said.
The police have confiscated pieces of evidence related to the case, including a mobile phone and a SIM card.
GS was charged under the Electronic Information and Transaction Law, that carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison.
Sabilul also called on the public to follow legal procedures in solving problems in the community.
"Do not act as vigilantes, if there is a problem, inform the authorities," he added. (dis)
