akarta Governor Anies Baswedan is to implement a food subsidy program next year to subsidize milk and eggs for the city's children.
Dubbed the "white revolution", the program was originally championed by Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Soebianto during his 2014 presidential campaign.
The program's readiness was reflected during an event on Friday morning at South Jakarta's Cilandak elementary school. Organized by Bidarari Indonesia, a group of former volunteers of the Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno gubernatorial campaign, Anies and members of Bidadari Indonesia distributed milk and eggs to students at the event.
"With the 'white revolution' program, in which the children are provided with milk and eggs that are high in protein, Insya Allah [God willing] we can develop stronger bodies," said Anies.
"Schools can thus develop children's bodies, minds and characters," he said.
The city administration expects to spend Rp 885 billion (US$65 million) next year on food subsidies that include beef, chicken, eggs, rice, fish and milk.
