ndonesia lost 3-2 to defending champion China in Wednesday’s last group match to become the Group D runner-up in the 2018 Uber Cup women’s team championship in Bangkok.
Both Indonesia and China have already secured a spot in the cup’s quarterfinals.
The Wednesday battle was opened by Fitriani who lost 21-10 and 21-15 to Chen Yufei in the singles category.
In the second match, doubles pairing Greysia Polii and Apriani Rahayu lost 21-13 and 21-19 to Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan.
World number 35 Gregoria Mariska upset world number 32 Gao Fangjie 23-21 and 21-16 in 45 minutes to nail the first win for Indonesia.
Unfortunately, Della Destiara Haris and Rizki Amelia Pradipta failed to follow Gregoria’s success, suffering 21-16 and 21-16 to Huang Yaqiong and Tang Jinhua, making China the leader of the group.
Refusing to surrender, Ruselli Hartawan stunned 2012 Olympic gold medalist Li Xuerui 15-21, 21-19 and 21-18 to call it a day.
Despite the loss, coach Minarti Timur said she was happy with the progress made by her shuttlers, adding that she was aware some of her players were under pressure, so they were unable to play their best.
