The islets, which were previously called islets C, D and G, are now called Pantai Kita (Our Beach), Pantai Maju (Moving Forward Beach) and Pantai Bersama (Together Beach), respectively.
akarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced on Monday the official names of three man-made islets in Jakarta Bay. The islets, which were previously called islets C, D and G, are now called Pantai Kita (Our Beach), Pantai Maju (Moving Forward Beach) and Pantai Bersama (Together Beach), respectively.
The names are derived from Anies’ administration's slogan, “maju bersama”, which translates to “moving forward together”.
“The names are in accordance with our spirit. We are moving Jakarta forward,” he told the press, noting that the changes were stipulated in Governor Decision No. 1744/2018.
According to Anies, the three islets are still within the area of Java island, and hence, could not be described as islands.
“They’re not new islands. They’re more like beaches,” he said.
City-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) has been appointed to manage the islets, as outlined in Gubernatorial Regulation No. 120/2018.
Jakpro has been granted a 10-year management period. Within that period, Jakpro is required to build low-cost apartments, fish markets, seafood restaurants, houses of worship, government buildings, harbors and other supporting facilities.
Previously, the developer of Islet G, PT Agung Podomoro Land, said they had not been informed about the changes by Anies. (evi)
