resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo traveled on Thursday by bus along the Trans Java toll road as the President was scheduled to launch four toll road sections.
The President, who was accompanied by First Lady Iriana Widodo and a number of ministers, started his trip from the Warunggunung toll gate in Surabaya, East Java, and ended in Kali Kudo toll gate in Kendal, Central Java.
During his trip, Jokowi made several stops to launch the operation of the four sections -- Wilangan-Kertosono, Bandar-Kertosono, Porong-Gempol, and Pasuruan-Grati.
“The total length of the four toll roads reaches 59 kilometers,” said Jokowi when launching the operation of Wilangan-Kertosono toll road section in East Java.
The launch of the four toll road sections marked the connection of all toll roads from Jakarta to Surabaya with a total length of 741 kilometers, and is part of the planned Trans Java toll road from Merak in Banten to Banyuwangi in East Java.
The President expressed hope the operation of the Jakarta-Surabaya toll road would improve the efficiency of transportation in Java as people would have more choices to reach their destinations, and would also boost the economy by improving the investment climate and tourism.
“In Ngawi, [East Java], for example, I got a report from the governor that investment has started to increase thanks to cheap land prices and competitive human resources.” (bbn)
