epok Police have arrested two men for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl, Rini (not her real name), who attempted to commit suicide by jumping off a footbridge in Depok, West Java, on Wednesday.
The suspects are identified as MS and AS, who were arrested on Friday night in separate locations after police saved Rini and she told them about her ordeal over the past year.
Depok Police spokesman Adj. Comr. Firdaus said MS was arrested at a rented house adjacent to a train station, while Ari was arrested while driving an angkot (public minivan) serving the route between Kampung Rambutan in East Jakarta and Depok.
Firdaus said the two arrestees had tested positive for narcotics.
“The victims also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
“We are still interrogating the suspects and seeking other witnesses in the case,” Firdaus added.
Rini had jumped off the footbridge but survived the fall. She later told the police she had been forced by MS, who lived with her, to consume narcotics. MS also reportedly forced Rini to have sex with his friends.
Rini told kompas.com she had lived with MS for about a year after her mother had asked the man to look after her. She said she had been sexually assaulted since then.
She said MS usually hit her with a belt if she rejected his demands, adding that she had also been forced to sell narcotics to others. (das)
