One of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, Santorini has become a hugely popular choice for an island getaway.

Who can resist this picturesque island? With its views of white and blue buildings, the blue sea and the surrounding islands, it’s just like paradise. Clearly, there are not enough words to describe the stunning island.

When it comes to choosing the best area to stay in Santorini, it really depends on the purpose of your trip. Let’s start by looking at each popular area on the island – hopefully you can find one that meets your expectations.

Fira

Fira is the capital of Santorini, the hub of the island. It is a vibrant town with bustling activities. If you’re traveling with a group of friends or looking to be right in the center of the activity, then Fira might be your best choice, as there’s always something to do. The central streets are filled with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars.

Fira is also the epicenter of the island’s nightlife. This is where you’ll find most of the best bars and nightclubs on the island.

Firostefanir

Firostefani is the best budget choice for accommodation. This is where you’ll probably find the best deals on hotels.

It has easy access to the center of the town, lying only about a 10-minute walk from Fira, but far enough to allow for privacy and quiet.

Imerovigli

Imerovigli is renowned for its peaceful surroundings for those who wish to have a relaxing holiday.

It is the quietest town, located at the top of a cliff. This is why this town has the island’s best sunset vantage point - in the center of the island overlooking the azure blue ocean, blue sky and the surrounding islands as far as the eye can see.

Oia

Located at the northern tip of the island, Oia is Santorini’s most romantic and charming town, filled with some of the most luxurious hotels for your romantic getaway. You can find Santorini’s most famous postcard shot, the Blue-Dome Church, in Oia.

The town is usually busy until sunset - it is also the best spot to see the sunset after Imerovigli. There are many restaurants, luxury boutiques and art galleries, but no nightlife or bars.

Kamari

If you’re going in the summer and wish to spend time lying on the beach, you can choose the beach town, Kamari. The beach town also offers better value for hotels and restaurants than the caldera view towns, and it has a kid-friendly vibe – not so many stairs!

Kamari is fun and lively in the summer where the weather is suitable to enjoy all sorts of beach activities.

Wherever you choose to stay, while you’re on the island, don’t miss the cruising experience around Santorini and the Greek islands.

Kick back on a relaxing cruise ride across the Aegean Sea. Enjoy your lunch or dinner inside the cruise and witness the remains of an enormous eruption that occurred 3600 years ago, creating the beautiful Greek islands.

If you’re into it, jump off the boat to swim in the crystal-clear blue sea and also enjoy the hot springs!
