he number of accidents during this year’s Idul Fitri mudik (exodus) dropped 31 percent compared to last year as travel flows remained smooth, authorities have reported.
National Police Traffic Corps head Insp. Gen. Agus Suryonugroho said in a statement on Tuesday that there were 1,477 traffic accidents in the 10 days leading up to Idul Fitri this year, down from 2,152 in 2024, as reported by Tempo.
The police also recorded 223 fatalities in road accidents, 100 fewer than the previous year.
According to the police, 1.7 million vehicles left Greater Jakarta between March 21 and 30, the day before Idul Fitri, less than the predicted 2.1 million vehicles.
State-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja executive director Rivan Purwanto described the decline in the number of traffic accidents as significant.
“There are still victims, but the safety measures in place have been thoroughly implemented,” he told reporters on Monday, kompas.com reported.
