he city of Semarang in Central Java will mark its 470th birthday with the release of 4,700 lanterns into the sky on Saturday evening.
Themed “Festival Banjir Kanal Barat 2017,” the event is being held along Jl. Bojong Salaman and Jl. Basudewo and the Banjir Kanal Barat river.

The three-day celebration began on Thursday and showcases popular products and food from Semarang’s small and medium businesses. It also features a music performance from singer Cakra Khan and a boat decoration competition with 20 participants.
The 4,700 lanterns will be released at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi will be the first to release his lantern, followed by invited guests and residents. (kes)
