T

he splendor of Labuan Bajo in West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, is set to be promoted in a reality show by Guangdong Radio and Television (GRT) in China.

The Guangdong administration-owned media outlet reportedly sent a team of 14 people to visit the place, which is home to the iconic Komodo dragon, on July 24-28.

"Other than Labuan Bajo, the GRT team also went to Bali to produce six shows related to Indonesia's tourist destinations," said Indonesian Consul-General in Guangzhou Ratu Silvy Gayatri on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Six out of the 14-member team are Guangdong residents who were selected by the Indonesian Consulate-General in Guangzhou on July 10 to participate in the upcoming show and share their experiences of exploring the islands of Komodo, Padar and Nemu, the Pink and Jimbaran beaches, Bebek Tepi Sawah restaurant and coffee tourism in Ubud, Gianyar regency in Bali.

Called China Chats, the show will be broadcast on the GRT channel as well as online and the six participants will be requested to pick the three best photos of the four-day trip and provide comments.

GRT boasts of having around 130,000 viewers across China.

In the past two years, Labuan Bajo is said to have welcomed an increasing number of tourists from China, the United States, Australia and Europe. Last year up to 1.4 million Chinese citizens reportedly came to Indonesia on vacation.

The Tourism Ministry aims to attract at least 2.5 million tourists from China this year, which includes Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. (dan/kes)
