ocated in West Jakarta, Jl. Pesanggrahan in Kembangan is a road full of eateries. Visitors can find a wide range of restaurants to choose from, including Indonesian and Western varieties. 

How to get there 

As it is a bit tricky to get to Jl. Pesanggrahan by public transport, you could opt for a taxi or app-based transportation to get to your destination.

What to wear 

Feel free to wear casual clothes, such as jeans and T-shirt, as the eateries along the road are laidback hangout spots.

What to do

While the road is covered with a plethora of restaurants, there are also retail outlets you may want to explore.

The recently opened Dream Beauty Lab could be a pick for those looking for some rest and relaxation, as the establishment offers a little something for both men and women.

Stepping into the facility, visitors are greeted with warm, muted tones that immediately set you at ease. Wooden furniture and metal accents welcome visitors before an appointment, either for a regular beauty treatment or more serious procedures.

Visitors should first consult with a professional for special procedures, such as how to treat acne and hair loss. The Lab also offers an upscale experience with a wide range of regular treatments, including nails, facials and eyelash extensions. 

You could also do your grocery shopping on Jl. Pesanggrahan, as the road hosts two comprehensive supermarkets. A branch of the Ranch Market chain is located on the northern half of the road and set inside its own mini mall, along with an ACE Hardware store. 

There is also a smaller alternative for groceries at the Rezeki Supermarket across the road. The shop stocks imported products from China, Japan and South Korea, such as multigrain rice mixes, noodles and high quality green tea.  

What to eat

Jl. Pesanggrahan is a culinary destination with restaurants lining both sides of the road. The ones mentioned below are only a handful from the dozens to choose from.

 

For a casual meal, you may want to try Bakso Jawir, or also styled as Bakso JWR. The popular eatery serves bakso (meatball) bowls, ranging from regular meatballs to giant-sized ones filled with either egg or minced meat.

If you're really hungry, go for the jumbo bowl, as its generous portion is sure to fill you up. Prices range from Rp 20,000 (US$1.48) to Rp 40,000 a bowl.

For a Western bite, there is Willie Brothers, a restaurant that serves raclette cheese with steak. The meat is carefully seasoned to match the cheese’s intensity that is made from cow's milk and known for its nutty flavor and gooey texture when melted. Prices start from Rp 120,000.

If meat is not what you're looking for, there's Layar restaurant that specializes in seafood cooked with a generous dose of Indonesian flavors. The joint is actually a branch of its original outlet located in Surabaya, East Java, which first opened in 1999. 

Diners can find anything from crabs, clams, calamari to prawns and lobsters. Some of the signature dishes include crab cooked with an onion sauce and a lobster sashimi.

For dessert, grab a scoop of homemade gelato from Pesca, which has been producing premium quality ice cream since 1995. The tasty treat only come in a handful of flavors, but each a satisfying delight, such as vanilla with salted caramel, black forest, lemon and Irish cream. One scoop is priced at Rp 25,000 and two for Rp 45,000.

Pesca also makes ice cream cakes, which can be tailor-made with decorations according to your own preferences.  

Tips

  • Jl. Pesanggrahan is a major road, be careful when crossing, as it is best to find a designated crossing spot. 
  • Wear comfortable shoes if you plan on walking the length of the road, as it's a fair bit of ground to cover. (kes)
