Several events and fireworks shows will be held in the capital to ring in the new year.
elebrating New Year’s Eve might not feel complete without watching fireworks light up the night sky. The following are five spots in Jakarta to enjoy fireworks as suggested by kompas.com:
Ancol Dreamland Park, North Jakarta
Ancol Dreamland Park is scheduled to hold a series of events to celebrate the end of the year. Dubbed Symphony of the Sea Countdown 2020, visitors can catch a 10-minute fireworks show, said to be “the biggest Jakarta musical fireworks” in five locations, namely Lagoon Beach, Carnaval Beach, Monument Lake, Putri Duyung Resort and Festival Beach at night on Dec. 31.
The park will feature performances by Indonesian bands, namely NOAH, Armada, Geisha, D’Masiv and Setia Band at Carnaval Beach on Tuesday.
The National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta
Monas never loses its charm as being among popular places to welcome the new year. The city has been hosting Monas Week since Dec. 24, an exhibition where visitors can watch video mapping performances on the façade of the monument, displaying history and philosophies related to the monument.
On Tuesday, the duration of the video mapping performance will be longer than usual. Visitors can watch the performance at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9:30 p.m., 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, Central Jakarta
The Jakarta administration is set to hold a series of events on Dec. 31 at five locations, such as at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, the front yard of City Hall, the South West gate of the National Monument, Jl. Wahid Hasyim (in front of the Jaya building) and Dukuh Atas cultural spot.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is scheduled to attend the event at the traffic circle. From 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., the event will feature various performers, including the self-proclaimed king of dangdut Rhoma Irama and his band the Soneta Group, Indonesian band Wali, as well as singers Joy Tobing and Erie Susan.

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) cultural park will hold its events under the title of Magical New Year 2020 on Tuesday. According to the park’s official Instagram account, it is set to blast 7,042 fireworks at Arsipel Lake.
There will be performances by Indonesian bands, including Hijau Daun and Cokelat, at the main stage of the KTT Non-Block Monument.
The park will also hold a wayang kulit (leather shadow puppet) performance by Ki Manteb Soedharsono from 8 p.m. at Candi Bentar stage.
Central Park, West Jakarta
Central Park shopping mall is scheduled to hold an event titled Post New Year Celebration on Jan. 1. It will feature a fireworks and laser show as well as performances by pop band GIGI and DJ Diskopantera. The event will start at 7:30 p.m. at Tribeca Park. (wir/wng)
