he Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry plans to ramp up national coal production in the second half of 2023 following requests from local producers.
Lana Saria, the ministry’s coal business development director said on Monday that miners with mining permits, including work contracts (PKP2B) and special mining permits (IUPK), had presented proposals to augment coal production in the 2023 work plan and budget draft.
“There’s a possibility to increase the production, given that numerous coal companies are pushing for expanded production,” Lana said as quoted from Kontan.

During the first seven months of the year, the ministry recorded coal production at 369.17 million tonnes, which accounts for 53.16 percent of this year’s national target of 694.5 million tonnes.
As of June, Indonesia had exported 249.03 million tonnes of coal and had secured 97.17 million tonnes for domestic market obligation (DMO).
Lana went on to say that up to this point, miners have complied with the DMO policy, evidenced by the absence of any reports from domestic consumers indicating supply shortages.
