Gojek enhances safety measures ahead of Eid holiday

n accordance with the tradition of homecoming or mudik leading up to Idul Fitri, Gojek, as Indonesia’s leading on-demand services provider from the GoTo Group, continues to ensure the safety of its customers when using its services.

Gojek's internal data shows that in the period leading up to Idul Fitri in 2023, there was a significant increase in people traveling to public transportation facilities using Gojek transportation services. The increment number is likely to increase this year since the Ministry of Transportation anticipated the mass travels to reach 193.6 million passengers.

“For Gojek, security and safety are the main priorities. We demonstrate this priority by using the latest technology, to ensure that customers feel secure when using the Gojek application. We also work extra hard to exceed industry’s safety standards by implementing additional protection measures and continue educating our driver partner to create a culture of safety within our ecosystem,” said Rubi Purnomo, SVP Corporate Affairs Gojek.

Utilizing technology, education and additional protection measures, Gojek instills these as the three pillars of #AmanBersamaGojek (#SafeWithGojek). Rubi said the three pillars were inseparable and increasingly important at a time when people's mobility was increasing ahead of the holiday. Gojek has also advised its customers to leverage the safety features included in the three pillars to ensure a safer trip.

Firstly, the Share Trip allows users to share information with relatives. These include pick-up and drop-off locations, the driver and vehicle, trip status and estimated travel time, as well as the route the driver chooses on their journey. Not only will your relatives know where customers are at all times, it will help them estimate their arrival and the time it takes to prepare their homecoming.

Whenever there is an emergency of any kind, Gojek is ready to help customers and driver partners via the Emergency Button. This feature is connected to the 24-Hour Emergency Unit, which is present in various operational areas and is trained to respond to reports from a victim's perspective and coordinate with the relevant authorities when handling emergencies. Not only that, the Gojek Emergency Unit team is also equipped with ambulance services.

Lastly, customers are encouraged to take full advantage of the Pick-up Point according to the Gojek application. The application provides hundreds of pick-up points, customer waiting areas and driver-partner shelters in strategic locations or public transportation points such as airports, bus terminals, train stations, shopping centers and others. Most of all, the company wants riders to remember that there is safety in numbers.

Other safety measures integrated by Gojek include that all transportation services are covered by insurance to minimize the impact of risks during the trip. Apart from this basic insurance, before starting the trip, customers can also activate additional protection TripSafe+ up to Rp 350 million (US$22,053).

Gojek also enforces Face Verification features for driver partners and Number Masking. Not only does it function to ensure the suitability of the identity and vehicle of Gojek driver partners, this also ensures public comfort when communicating with Gojek driver partners. Phone numbers of users and driver partners are also disguised to ensure the security of both parties' personal data.

"Customers can learn about Gojek transportation service security safety features that will appear even when a new order is being made. This step can be learned and used by clicking the Gojek Security Device button - green shield form on the travel page. In it, there is all information and features related to security starting from travel insurance information, trip share feature, emergency button feature and the option to provide service input," Rubi explained.

Gojek also continues to strengthen enforcement and strict rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to encourage multiparty education to create comprehensive security. Rubi added, “We are committed to responding swiftly to security reports to provide peace of mind for customers and partners. Both partners and users who are proven to have committed violations will be subject to strict action, in the form of permanent blocking from the Gojek ecosystem and reporting to the legal realm.”

Furthermore, together with various parties, Gojek also focuses on increasing public knowledge, driver partners and the Gojek Emergency Unit Team, to ensure a safer ecosystem for all.
