The PDI-P has yet to name its nominee for the 2024 presidential race.
ental Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo is projected to win a presidential race against six potential presidential candidates that include Gerindra Party leader Prabowo Subianto and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, according to a recent political survey.
The survey, conducted by the political pollster Indikator Politik in mid-February, found that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician has become more popular as the 2024 presidential election approaches.
Indikator polled some 1,200 respondents from across the country aged 17 or older who were randomly selected. The results have a margin of error of 2.9 percent. Respondents were asked to choose a president from 33 candidates, 19 candidates, seven candidates and three candidates.
When the survey provided 33 popular names touted to be running in the presidential election and asked respondents who they would vote for should the presidential election be held now, 21.9 percent chose Prabowo, while Ganjar and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan trailed at second and third place, with 19.8 and 16.4 percent, respectively.
The three political figures still topped the survey with 19 names, which included PDI-P politician and Social Affairs Minister Tri “Risma” Rismaharini, former maritime affairs and fisheries minister Susi Pudjiastuti and current Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.
However, when all the names were filtered to just seven candidates, which included Prabowo, Ganjar, Anies, Democratic party leader Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, House Speaker and PDI-P politician Puan Maharani, as well as Golkar party head and Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto, the survey found that Ganjar outranked Prabowo in electability.
Indikator Politik Indonesia executive director Burhanuddin Muhtadi said a possible explanation for Ganjar’s rise in popularity, at the expense of Prabowo, was that respondents who preferred a candidate that was not included in the list of seven names decided to choose Ganjar.
