vid Twitter users can rejoice as the social media platform reportedly plans to exclude photos and link characters from the existing 140-characters limit.

As reported by Bloomberg, a source who asked not to be named stated that the change may happen in the following two weeks. Presently, Twitter has not yet released any official statement regarding the matter.

Up to this day, the microblogging site still includes photos or website links to the character limit. It also automatically sets outside links as 23-characters, be the actual link is shorter or longer than that. Should this feature be removed, users will get to enjoy 23 more characters for their tweet.

When it was established in 2006, Twitter set the 140-character limit to match the character limit of text messages at that time. Back then, smartphones were not widely manufactured and people used mobile messaging services to send their tweets.

Back in January, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said that the company was aiming for a change in text display. One of the possible changes he mentioned was to massively increase the character limit to 10,000 characters. (kes)
