ust after going public at a valuation of US$24 billion and officially releasing its Spectacles – glasses with a camera embedded in the front -- online, social media giant Snapchat has announced that it has amassed 500 million downloads on Google Play.
Despite the milestone, the platform's performance on Android devices is still shaky, as the company has primarily focused on iOS devices. “To continue growth in user engagement, we will need to prioritize development of our products to operate on smartphones with Android operating systems,” said the company as quoted by Business Insider.
“If we are unable to improve the operability of our products on smartphones with Android operating systems, and those smartphones become more popular and fewer people use smartphones with iOS operating systems, our business could be seriously harmed.”
Still, Snapchat’s work toward cornering the iOS market looks to have worked, as the app is considerably more popular on Apple devices. (sul/kes)
