/o:p>President- and vice president-elect Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka jetted off to the Middle East on Monday to talk business with their Qatari and United Arab Emirates counterparts, making it their first trip post-victory confirmation.

Included on the pair’s itinerary is the Qatar Economic Forum, where Prabowo is slated to take to the stage on Wednesday, his team said. Meanwhile, Gibran is to have a meeting with UAE officials to discuss grant funds provided by Abu Dhabi for the city of Surakarta that he has led.

Outgoing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is also scheduled to attend the forum in Qatar, the team noted, although the President would likely take off for the Middle East separately following his Monday trip to Southeast Sulawesi.

“Yes, [Prabowo] has departed to Qatar today to attend the event with Jokowi,” Kani Dwiharyani, a communications staffer at the Gerindra Party, chaired by Prabowo, told The Jakarta Post on Monday. “It is confirmed that [Gibran] is also coming along.”

An official at the Defense Ministry confirmed news of Prabowo's departure and said he would also visit the UAE.

The fourth Qatar Economic Forum, themed A World Remade: Navigating the Year of Uncertainty, will run from Tuesday through Thursday, during which over 1,000 participants, including world leaders from over 50 countries, will engage in business talks to focus on “pressing economic issues and explore opportunities for collaboration”, according to official statements.

Prabowo, according to the forum's official website, will be one of the four "heads of state" to be speaking at the event. The remaining figures are Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Polish President Andrezej Duda and Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim.
