eard about the new Snapchat glasses but don’t exactly know what they do and where to get them? Check out our quick guide below.
Where to buy
For starters, they’re called Snapchat Spectacles and up until Feb. 20, could only be bought at “Snapbots”, vending machines that wouldn’t stay in one place for more than a day. On top of that, these vending machines only accepted credit or debit cards, would appear unannounced, and would not be in more than one location at a time. It became more or less a game, which helped create word-of-mouth hype.
Who can buy
But Spectacles have finally been released online. For US$129.99 a pop plus shipping and tax, you can get a pair shipped to your door, provided your shipping address is in the United States. Available in coral, black and teal, the glasses come with their own charging case and charging cable, but you can buy backups for $49.99 and $9.99, respectively.

Size matters
If you’re wondering if you should try to get your hands on a pair, you first need either an iPhone 5 or later that runs iOS 8 or above, or an Android device that currently runs Android 4.3 or above, with BLE and Wi-Fi Direct features. There is also the question of if they will fit - for one editor of Digital Trends, the glasses felt too small. If you wear prescription glasses, the Spectacle lenses can be swapped for ones to suit you, though your optician must do this for you.
If you end up really disliking your Spectacles, Snapchat offers a 30-day return policy.

How it works
To use your Spectacles, you first have to pair them to your phone through the settings in the Snapchat app. If it works, it should be connected within 10-20 seconds. Your Spectacles will record the process and store the video in the Memories tab. If you have additional pairs, you can also connect them to your account in the same way.
To see how much battery life is still left, double-tapping the side of the left lens by the shutter button is will light up LEDs that correspond to the percentage of battery life left.
To actually take videos, it’s all about giving the shutter button a tap, and it will record for ten seconds. If you want to stop it, you just press and hold for two seconds. As long as your Spectacles are paired to your phone, the Snaps will save in your Memories tab. Once they’re in Memories, you can edit and send them to either people or to your Story, the same way you would with a regular Snap. Anything recorded on your Spectacles will be shown in a circular video, to differentiate videos taken on the glasses versus videos taken on phones. (sul/kes)
