10 things you should know before watching ‘Avengers: Endgame’ A still from 'Avengers: Endgame.' (Marvel/File)

1) I don’t remember what happened in Avengers: Infinity War. Can you remind me?

In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos managed to collect all six Infinity Stones onto his Infinity Gauntlet, and wiped out half the population of the entire universe with a single snap of his fingers. Avengers: Endgame is supposedly set five years after the events in Infinity War.

2) Who got ‘snapped’?

A number of superheroes got snapped, including T’Challa/Black Panther, Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Doctor Stephan Strange, Groot, Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Drax The Destroyer, Mantis, Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, along with Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Hank Pym (the former Ant-Man), and Janet Van Dyne (the former Wasp). Oh, a few heroes were also killed by Thanos way before the snap, including Loki, Gamora and Vision.

 3) So, who’s left?

The ‘original’ Avengers – Steve Rogers/Captain America, Tony Stark/Iron Man, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Thor, Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Bruce Banner/Hulk, and also James Rhodes/War Machine, Rocket Raccoon, Nebula, and General Okoye of Wakanda, and Scott Lang/Ant-Man. Oh, and a certain interstellar superhero named Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel.

Recent posters have also revealed that Happy Hogan (Stark’s assistant), Pepper Potts (Stark’s fiancee), Aunt May, and Wong (Dr Strange’s assistant) survived as well.

4) Why wasn’t Ant-Man in Avengers: Infinity War, and how did he survive being ‘snapped’?

This was explained in a post-credit scene at the end of Ant-Man And The Wasp, which showed that Scott had ventured into the Quantum Realm at the time of the snap. So while Hope, Janet and Hank were all snapped, it somehow missed Scott. it remains to be seen whether this is because he was in the Quantum Realm or because he just wasn’t part of the 50% that were ‘chosen’ to be snapped.

5) Hawkeye, who was also absent in the last movie, shows up here with a black costume. What’s up with that?

That would be his ‘Ronin’ costume. Ronin, which means ‘lone samurai’ in Japanese, is a persona that has been taken by several characters in the Marvel comics, but Clint Barton only took it after the events of Civil War. Since the last time we saw Clint was in Captain America: Civil War, where he retired from active duty to be with his family, we’re guessing that Thanos’ snap probably took his family from him, prompting him to fight crime as Ronin as a way to cope with his grief.

6) Why wasn’t Captain Marvel around during the Infinity War?

As we saw in the recent Captain Marvel movie, Carol was away in deep space when Thanos invaded Earth to claim the Infinity Stones. We’re assuming that news of the battle in Wakanda never reached Nick Fury, who only managed to page Carol just before he disintegrated. Marvel Studios head honcho has already called Carol the ‘most powerful’ superhero in the MCU. Her presence, along with fellow heavy hitters Thor and Hulk, will certainly help to balance the stakes when it comes to taking on Thanos head on.

7) But Hulk never played a part in the final battle of Infinity War. What happened to him?

After being battered and toss around like a rag doll by Thanos at the start of Infinity War, Hulk has gone into ‘hiding’ inside Bruce Banner, seemingly afraid to come out because of how weak Thanos made him feel. Considering how important Hulk was in defeating the enemies in both previous Avengers films, we’d bet our purple pants that he’s going to come out at some point and change the playing field at some point during Endgame.

8) By the way, what is Thanos doing now?

Well, apparently he has hung up his armor and taken up farming somewhere. We’re not entirely sure what he’s doing, but it’s safe to say that he’s feeling pretty proud of himself right now.

9) What else do I need to know before going into the cinema?

The movie is three hours long, so make sure you go to the restrooms before the movie, or you might miss crucial parts of the story.

10) Anything else?

If you are among the first ones to watch the movie, congratulations. But remember, there are many more Avengers fans who would love to watch it without knowing what happens beforehand. So please, refrain from posting spoilers on your social media feeds. Remember, #ThanosDemandsYourSilence, so #DontSpoilTheEndgame.
